Today’s backbend, and a first-time-ever video of me standing up – not after a dropback….

Slowly, slowly, slowly, by fits and starts, it gets better. Yesterday, my wrists hurt so much, I couldn’t press up into a backbend. I think I have arthritis in my wrists. I already have it in a couple of knuckles. That sucks. I hope that continuing to practice the yoga will stave off the onsent of arthritis in my wrists. I don’t care so much about my fingers. But my wrists, I need them.

MMMMWWWAHH! I thought you wanted to be friends again? Can’t we be friends again? It’s SATIRE!

  8. Yoga Chickie says:

You wouldn’t know “satire” if it bit you on the (flat) ass (or your brain – hard to tell which is which).

Backbend is nice, YC, but you have to stand up with your feet flat on the ground. The way you are doing it is just encouraging the wrong action and preventing you learning it. IMO.

Thanks S – I wish I could follow your advice. I have no idea how to do so though…

Well… I dunno what your teacher says, but if it were me, I’d get you to forget standing up for a while. You need to have your hands closer to your feet first, I could never stand up from where you are – there’s too much ‘forward’ necessary as opposed to ‘up’. I’d do wall dropbacks instead – drop straight to the wall and (without walking hands down) lightly bounce off it back to standing. KEEPING YOUR LEGS STRONG. And over time sropping lower and lower on the wall.

Standing up is all about keeping your legs strong and grounded. Completely.

    Dropping, not sropping 🙂

    I think that’s great!
I want to be able to do this!

Well done, and keep up the excellent progression, its inspirational.

that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to tell yc, susananda. she’s learning bad habits. That’s not standing up, that’s coming forward. standing up is completely different.

  16. Yoga Chickie says:

Susananda, I practice standing up because my teacher tells me to. Plain and simple. He’s gotten through all of third and some of fourth series, without being a particularly natural gumby, and he is one of the most intelligent human beings I have ever met. So, with few exceptions, I don’t question my teacher’s instructions.

    Laksmi – .

GilesDM – you’re sweet! Thank you!

I won’t be allowing Laksmi to comment here anymore, and Susananda, please accept my apologies but I had to delete your comment because it referenced Laksmi’s secret blog, which makes many people feel left out and talked about.

I also am not going to tolerate people questioning my teacher, at least at this point. I just think too highly of him to allow people who don’t practice with him to use my blog as a forum to question his practices.

Whoops… looks like I did two bad things in one comment. Sorry YC, I was only trying to be helpful!
