Today’s Backbending Entry

So, I think the backbending is improving steadily. But the standup does NOT reflect it. In fact, it sucks badly. But in the interest of time, and humility, I felt that I needed to publish today’s outtake. OK, they were all outtakes. So, if I was going to publish anything for your perusal and advice, dear reader(s) (!), it was going to be the best of the worst, or nothing at all. I settled for the former. Here it is. Go ahead, laugh. But nicely. Or I will continue to publish only the stuff that looks good (in my opinion).

Lauren, the backbend does look better, but, my opinion, and it could mean absolutely nothing, is that you need to stop trying to stand up until your backbend is ready for it. you are putting the cart before the horse. you are creating bad habits and muscle patterns in your body that are going to be a real pain in the ass to get rid of once you really are ready to stand up. take all that energy that you use standing up and just put it into opening up the backbend.

It is getting slightly better, in very small increments. I was thinking the exact same thing though – I was not really into standing up today because I kept thinking: why? Why am I putting myself through this when my backbend is not ready?

you’ve got to stop standing up like that. It’s teaching you the wrong thing–cranky’s RIGHT. Yes, just open. The way you come up is not even in the same room as the right way to come up. They’re not related. Don’t put yourself through it. Only do dropbacks with a teacher. Standing up from urdva d and doing dropbacks are really two different things. You need consistent practice with a teacher.
